Free short-term skill training and a certificate, for young people aged 15 to 45

StudentsAll of India

Updated on 16 Oct 2026

What you get

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship's flagship scheme gives free, short-duration skill training in job roles aligned to the National Skills Qualifications Framework, including on-the-job training at an establishment, followed by an assessment and a certificate on your Skill India Digital profile; the training centre also gives you a printed copy free. Candidates get an induction kit and one free re-assessment, and every certified candidate has accident insurance for a year. Women, persons with disabilities and candidates in special areas can get boarding, lodging and travel support. Recognition of Prior Learning assesses and certifies skills that experienced workers already have. The guidelines describe PMKVY 4.0 as running from FY 2022 to 2026.

Who can apply

Indian nationals with a valid Aadhaar who meet the requirements of the chosen job role. Short-term training is for people aged 15 to 45 - school or college dropouts, unemployed youth, and anyone seeking fresh skills, re-skilling or up-skilling. Recognition of Prior Learning is for people aged 18 to 59 with experience in the job role.
