Updated on 16 Oct 2026

What you get

The Ministry of MSME's scheme for artisans and craftspeople in 18 traditional trades. A registered artisan is recognised as a Vishwakarma with a certificate and ID card, and gets skill verification with 5 to 7 days (40 hours) of basic training - plus optional advanced training of 15 days (120 hours) - with a stipend of Rs 500 a day, and a toolkit grant of Rs 15,000. Collateral-free enterprise loans come in two tranches: Rs 1 lakh repaid over 18 months, then Rs 2 lakh over 30 months, at 5% interest to the artisan; the Ministry pays the interest subvention (capped at 8%) and the government pays the credit guarantee fee. Digital transactions earn Re 1 each for up to 100 a month, and a National Committee for Marketing helps with quality certification, branding, e-commerce and trade fairs.

Who can apply

An artisan or craftsperson who works with hands and tools in one of the 18 family-based traditional trades, self-employed in the unorganised sector: carpenter, boat maker, armourer, blacksmith, hammer and tool kit maker, locksmith, goldsmith, potter, sculptor, stone carver or stone breaker, cobbler or footwear artisan, mason, basket, mat or broom maker or coir weaver, traditional doll and toy maker, barber, garland maker, washerman, tailor, and fishing net maker. You must be at least 18 on the date of registration, be working in the trade then, and not have taken a self-employment or business loan under a similar central or state scheme - such as PMEGP, PM SVANidhi or Mudra - in the past 5 years. Only one member of a family (husband, wife and unmarried children) can register, and people in government service and their families cannot.

How to apply

Registration is on the PM Vishwakarma portal, done through a Common Service Centre (CSC), which also helps you open a bank account if you have none. The portal reports that its target of 30 lakh registrations was reached in September 2025, so ask your nearest CSC whether new registrations are being taken.
