NAMASTE (National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem)
Safety gear, health cover and livelihood support for sanitation workers
LabourAll of India
Updated on 16 Oct 2026
What you get
Run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, through NSKFDC. Profiled sewer and septic tank workers get occupational safety training and PPE kits, health insurance for themselves and their families under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY, and help to start sanitation enterprises through capital subsidies and loans for sanitation machines and vehicles under the Swachhata Udyami Yojana.
Who can apply
Sewer and septic tank workers in urban areas - whether engaged by an urban local body, a parastatal agency or a private sanitation service organisation, or working independently. Waste pickers were added to the scheme in 2024.
How to apply
Workers are enrolled at profiling camps held by the urban local body. Ask your urban local body, or the State NAMASTE Nodal Officer in the urban development department, about the camp for your area.
