What you get
Fishers and fish farmers can hold a Kisan Credit Card for the working capital their fishing or fish farming needs. Banks lend at 7% after the government's 1.5% interest subvention, and repaying on time earns a further 3%, an effective 4% a year. A new card holder's limit for fisheries is Rs 2 lakh; an existing KCC holder gets the interest benefits on up to Rs 3 lakh, fisheries included. Short-term farm loans of up to Rs 2 lakh need no collateral.
Who can apply
Inland fisheries and fish farming: fishers and fish farmers - individuals, groups, partners, sharecroppers and tenant farmers - Self Help Groups, Joint Liability Groups and women's groups who own or lease a fisheries asset such as a pond, tank, open water body, raceway, hatchery, rearing unit, boat or nets, and hold any licence their state requires.
Marine fisheries: the same people and groups who own or lease a registered fishing vessel or boat and hold a licence or permission to fish in estuaries and the sea.
How to apply
Apply at a commercial bank, cooperative bank or regional rural bank branch. The bank sets the credit limit from the scale of finance fixed by the district or state technical committee.
