Updated on 16 Oct 2026

What you get

The Bihar Department of Agriculture's scheme to expand tea growing in Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Purnia and Katihar. A farmer who plants tea gets 75% of the planting-material cost in the first year and the other 25% in the second year if 90% of the plants survive. Tea machinery is subsidised at half its cost, up to a limit: a pruning machine up to Rs 60,000, a mechanical harvester up to Rs 50,000, plucking shears up to Rs 1,100 each (20 at most), a leaf carriage vehicle up to Rs 7.5 lakh and a leaf collection shed up to Rs 37,500. 30% of the places go to women, and applicants are taken first come, first served.

Who can apply

The pruning machine, harvester and shears need 2 acres, the leaf shed 5 acres and the leaf carriage vehicle 10 acres.
